About Peter White

Peter White BA (hons)

At the age of 16, I trained as a cabinetmaker, at 'Rycotewood college' obtaining my City & Guilds qualifications, with credit, in 'Hand made & upholstered furniture'  I then worked for 30 years within the product design industry, which gave me the opportunity to work in different countries like Japan and Germany.
During the 90's I taught myself  3D modelling using CAD software and found employment as a CAD engineer.

As a mature student I started a degree course at 'Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College' where I obtained a First Class honours  degree in 'Furniture Conservation and restoration'. This included the restoration of upholstered furniture.

For the last 20 years I have run my own business 'Peter White Furniture' Restoring and upholstering antique furniture. Now in my upholstery studio, and under the name of 'The upholstery tutor' I offer upholstery courses where I pass on my 50 years of knowledge to students who will learn to upholster their own chair using traditional techniques and materials.

My interests outside of work and antiques include :-
Argentine Tango. I dance several times a week locally and regularly around the country and abroad.
I sail a Flying Fifteen at weekends at 'draycotewater sailing club' where I am a member.
I own a narrowboat and can be seen cruising the canal network.
